I build secure, air-gapped networks

Thirty-five years designing, hardening and running infrastructure for defense, government, education, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing and small business, including 25 years of U.S. Navy service. Today I lead engineering on a fully air-gapped, multi-site enterprise network, and I bring the same discipline to every client: build it right, automate it, document it, and make it stay up.

Selected projects

Tools I've built and shipped.

Each one solved a real operational problem, most of them on networks with no internet connection at all.

Private AI lab

AI that runs on your hardware, under your control.

I design AI systems for environments where data can't leave: local models on NVIDIA GPUs, agent teams that do real operations work, and frontier models only where policy allows.

Operator chat · CLI · agents Online harness frontier models when policy allows Offline LAN server Qwen3 32B · Ollama · 2× GPU data never leaves Knowledge wiki · runbooks air gap
TBD: dual-server AI troubleshooting platform. Architecture, hardware bill of materials and 12-week plan, 2026. One harness codebase switches between cloud and local model endpoints.
AGENTS

An engineering staff of AI agents

A chief-of-staff agent coordinates role-specific agents for systems, network, sysadmin, software, test, DevOps, writing and security. Together they produce requirements, designs, Cisco and Juniper configurations and slide decks.

RUNTIME

Hermes and Codex, merged

Two Hermes agents run as peers alongside a Codex coding runtime with 36 skills and 11 custom agent definitions, supervised in Docker and reachable over Tailscale. n8n handles schedules and retries.

SECRETS

Vault-backed secrets for agents

Agents authenticate to HashiCorp Vault through AppRole with wrapped, single-use secret IDs. The message broker carries only references, never secret values.

OFFLINE

Air-gapped coding assistant kit

Staged binaries and an offline installer for AI coding tools, with a LiteLLM proxy that keeps API keys off every workstation.

KNOWLEDGE

Self-maintaining LLM wiki

A 917-page knowledge base that agents synthesize, lint and index automatically, so institutional knowledge stops living in one person's head.

VERIFY

AI-assisted troubleshooting, verified

Agents help diagnose Cisco Nexus, Juniper SRX, XCP-ng and Rocky Linux issues and watch Graylog, LibreNMS and syslog. Every fix is checked against real device behavior before it counts.

How an engagement runs

The same six steps, at any scale.

01

Discover

Inventory what exists, map the network and talk to the people who use it.

02

Design

Architecture, diagrams and a written plan you approve before anything changes.

03

Build

Infrastructure as code, so every server can be rebuilt the same way.

04

Harden

STIG and NIST baselines, identity, logging and monitoring from day one.

05

Document

Runbooks, troubleshooting guides and diagrams your team can actually use.

06

Hand off

Training and a clean handover, with support afterwards if you want it.

The book

Mastering AI

A structured, practical guide to understanding, implementing and optimizing AI. Many organizations rush into AI without knowing its limits, and others hold back because they don't know where to start. This book closes that gap, from first principles through deployment, cybersecurity, automation at scale and large language models.
